Before you buy your popcorn, make sure you are making a wise choice about the movie you are about to watch, says Meg Dendler, a Christian Science practitioner from Houston, Texas in this Q&A chat.

Sifting through the titles of today's movies can be daunting, but approaching them with spirituality as your guide will help you decide whether you want to spend your time with the images and ideas in a particular movie, whether it's filled with violence and sensuality or a silly comedy.

Dendler advises listeners to follow Mary Baker Eddy's guidance in Science and Health and "stand porter at the door of thought." Don't be swayed by the "reel" life being depicted in movie advertisements, she says. Drawing on personal experiences, she shares how to avoid being pushed into watching a film you don’t want to see, how to select the most appropriate movie for children—and how to deal with those times when kids have seen movies that disturb them.
