While spirituality may mean something different to many people, Barbara Pettis offers a definition that rests on the teachings and ministry of Christ Jesus and the revolutionary ideas of Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science. She says that “both of these individuals peered deeply into the question of what it means to be spiritual, and what they found is profound. It certainly applies to us here and now, and in very practical ways.” She notes that Jesus is the perfect example of what it means to be spiritual, and Jesus’ teachings reveal God to be a Father we can turn to in every need. Mrs. Eddy expanded on that by describing God as Father-Mother and each of us as the children of that perfect parent.

This chat responds to questions asking for a definition of spirituality, an explanation of the differences between spirituality and religion, between being spiritual and human, and how to explain spirituality to children. Theological issues such as the difference between Eastern religions and Christian Science and other theologically oriented questions are addressed. Barbara also explains how spirituality can bring healing in the face of anger, illness, relationship and financial problems.
